Plies, on his real name, Algernod Lanier Washington, was born on July 1, 1976 in Fort Myers, Florida, United States of America. He was raised in East Dunbar. While in high school, Plies was a receiver and a defensive back in his school's football team. Thanks to his charm, Plies was also named Homecoming King and Best Dressed in his class. After this period, he went to Miami University and was a wide receiver for the university's football tea. He eventually transferred to University of Central Florida and dropped out, although he was a very good football player. In present, Plies is a famous rapper and the founder of Big Gates Records, together with his stepbrother, named Ronell Lawrence Lavatte. He initially refused to rap, but his brother convinced him after he raped for a track called Tell Dem Krackers Dat. After this, Plies eventually signed with Slip-n-Slide Records.

Plies proved to be very successful from the start, even if critics considered his lyrics were a little bit irresponsible, mentioning guns and erratic sexual behavior. In 2008, Plies had three nominations at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, for Ringtone Of The Year with Bust It Baby Pt 2, featuring Ne-Yo. For the same track, Plies was nominated for People's Champ Award and for Best Collaboration. Unfortunately, Plies did not go home with any prize that night. In 2007, he was nominated to the Ozone Awards for Best Rap/R'n'B Collaboration for the track Shawty, with T-Pain and he won.
